A great project starts with a great design

Starr Digital has been designing and consulting on diverse  sound, video and lighting projects since 1982.  Let us help you visualize your concept, focus and develop your goals, and transform them into a detailed technical roadmap created for success.

COMPLETE SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS

Precise and accurate written  specifications are the hallmark of a successful project. Starr Digital designs promote user friendly and intuitive operation, longevity, ability to grow and adapt for new future options, and economical and environmentally friendly system operation.   A good spec is the narrative that depicts and communicates the project's essence, and allows bidders, builders, planners, project partners and cross-functional teams to fully comprehend all aspects of the system's design and function(s).

SYSTEM DRAWINGS & DIAGRAMS

Drawings, diagrams and renderings bring visualization of design specifications to life, adding essential clarification to the written specification. High quality block diagrams, line & schematic diagrams and rendition drawings depict elements of system integration, critical signal flow, device placement, infrastructure requirements and interaction with project partners, associates and cross-functional teams such as other trades, and more.

INSRUCTIONS & OPERATION MANUALS

Because most systems are custom and unique, it is essential to create end-user operational documents and detailed, step by step instructional manuals. These documents & manuals are usually held and stored by Owner, Architect & Operator teams for long term reference. Starr Digital creates user friendly, logical and easy to understand instructional written documents featuring photographs & drawings to further enhance the learning experience. We can also create video manuals. Starr Digital also hosts live training seminars using the actual system(s) featuring demonstrations of system usage.

OUR PROCESS

PROJECT SURVEY: Successful Audio, Video, and Lighting (AVL) systems start with our client's vision of the project. We need to understand what the new system capabilities should be.  Once we have a basic understanding of our client's needs and expectations, we will have detailed questions, in order to further clarify and refine the system's functional requirements.  At this juncture, it is usually very helpful for our client to provide relevant project documents including architectural drawings and specifications if available, client produced sketches and plans, and even pictures of other similar projects.

DEFINE & REFINE THE DESIGN:  Once we have a firm grasp of our client's AVL needs for the present and foreseeable future, our design process can start. Starr Digital will refine and transform our carefully curated inventory of functional requirements into detailed technical designs and specifications. This will generally take the shape of proposed system equipment, a written specification, and various system drawings. The design process always starts with human creativity, tempered with the science of sound, video, and lighting, and refined by Starr Digital's over forty years of project experience. Once the designs are developed, Starr Digital's Design Group uses computer modeled simulations to predict system performance, providing important system functional data predictions for sound, lighting and video systems.

OTHER FACTORS:  It is not enough to just design the best AVL systems. Contemporary facilities feature many other building systems such as architectural room lighting, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, CCTV and so on. It is essential that our designs take into account the cohabitation of these systems with our AVL systems. It is also necessary for our systems to work within the architectural parameters of the structure they are to function within. A proactive dialogue with the Architects and planners is vital in order to visually and functionally integrate the AVL systems harmoniously into the overall architectural vision.

FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE:  Our Starr Digital line of high-end sound, video and lighting equipment, specially designed and produced exclusively for us by major manufacturers not only provides unparalleled value and performance, it un-tethers us from the mostly general purpose equipment available on the open market today. This is a tremendous benefit for Starr Digital clients because it allows us to design with a much more customized fitness for a particular purpose approach. This ideology always produces a highly successful outcome.

C.U.D.A.S: CENTRALLY UNIFIED DIGITALLY ADAPTABLE SYSTEMS is the name of our highly acclaimed digital systems concept. It represents our design philosophy and it is our mantra. Simply stated, more flexibility in audio, video and lighting functionality is… much better. More choices in how to matrix (assign inputs to outputs and other routing choices) audio and video has always been a very important goal. For many years, experienced designers like Peter Starr and Starr Digital were frustrated by the limitations of analog technology, which was not easily adaptable to situations that required changes in configuration, signal processing, mixer settings and other critical functions. Most simple changes required an experienced technician to perform the system reconfigurations, with limited results.

Digital technology has removed most of the limitations imposed by outdated analog technology. Peter Starr & Starr Digital embraced the countless advantages of digital technology right from the start. CUDAS is our latest digital anthem, and it works like this: Touch the HD video control panel and it comes to life. Select the desired functions from the intuitive, custom created GUI menus.  Let the lecture hall provide sound and video to selected classrooms. Command the grand ballroom to provide AV source feed to meeting rooms "A" through "D". Instruct the sanctuary to bestow sound and images to the overflow, cry room and multi-function areas. All with the touch of a video control panel. Control lighting and HVAC is possible too. CUDAS can be operated from wireless devices as well as wired touch panels and kiosk computers, and it can easily provide wireless streaming of multiple audio and video source devices, perfect for presenters, lecturers, students or audience participation to go untethered.

We are trained and certified CRESTRON and Digital Signal Processing (DSP) system dealers, designers, programmers and technicians. We can create what most others can't.  With Starr Digital's CUDAS, it is almost impossible to make a mistake, or cause issues that could require a service call, as is the case with analog and "hybrid" systems requiring re-patching of cables, and complicated adjustments that only a technician can be trusted to perform. CUDAS keeps our clients out of the weeds and allows almost any non-technical user to competently effect system changes.

CUDAS SAVES MONEY:  Because CUDAS makes complex system operations easy and foolproof, many system events do not require costly technicians to be present for system use.  By using CUDAS pre-programmed settings,  functionality is easy, averting costly service calls.

CUDAS GENERATES REVENUE:   Maximum revenue can be generated thanks to Starr Digital CUDAS tremendous flexibility, making system restructuring fast and easy, thereby providing much greater system usability and accommodating diverse events that would not have been possible prior to Starr Digital's CUDAS.

CUDAS IS VERSATILE:   It is perfect for almost every application such as arenas, theaters, sports bar and clubs, lecture halls/education, houses of worship, hotels & conference centers and more. Digital technology has removed most of the limitations imposed by outdated analog technology.
